What is a Topographic Survey?

A topographic survey (or topo) captures the shape, elevation, and features of the ground surface and existing improvements. The data is delivered as a CAD drawing showing contour lines (typically at 1-foot or 2-foot intervals), spot elevations, drainage patterns, structures, utilities, trees, and other site features. Engineers, architects, and contractors use topo surveys to design grading plans, drainage systems, site plans, and building foundations.

1. Site visit & scope — We assess the site, determine required accuracy and density, and establish control benchmarks. 2. Field data collection — Using Trimble RTK GNSS, we collect grid shots, breakline data, and feature locations at appropriate density for the intended use. 3. Processing & modeling — We create a digital terrain model (DTM) and generate contours, spot elevations, and feature layers. 4. CAD deliverables — We produce DWG and DXF files on standard layers organized for engineering use.
